Description
Originating from Morocco in 1950, this vintage mid-century Moroccan wool rug features one of the most uncommon geometric interpretations of regional symbolism. Hand knotted in high quality wool with one-sided prismatic fringes, the field design employs multi-colored rows of rectangles each containing one of the meandering feminine lozenge symbols, which may also represent the protective eye to ward off-evil as indicated by the centric iris-like symbols within. More unique to this piece is to see these meandering symbols each contained within their own patch of varying blue, bright pink, deep brown, burgundy, green, gray, and multicolor teal and beige; a feat of notable finesse on behalf of the weaver.
